Pastor Trevor Farmer

Pastor Trevor Farmer grew up in Avon, Indiana, where his faith was nurtured in the community of Avon United Methodist Church. After surviving a life-threatening accident in 2005, Trevor experienced a remarkable recovery that helped reshape his sense of purpose and deepened his faith. His journey led him from studying mathematics at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis to exploring theology and ministry.

Pastor Trevor has served as a youth pastor and worked with students with special learning needs within the school setting. These experiences strengthened his passion for helping people discover God’s grace in the midst of life’s challenges. He graduated with his Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary. Trevor and his wife share a deep commitment to faith, compassion, and serving others, and he continues to follow God’s call to ministry with gratitude for the community that has supported him along the way.

As Pastor Trevor began serving in Lizton and North Salem amidst the Covid Outbreak, he took note of the way God continues work through the body of Christ despite circumstantial setbacks. Now at Smith Valley UMC, Pastor Trevor seeks to encourage, empower, and spiritually enrich every person he comes in contact with. With a passion of illuminating the Word of God through teaching, sacraments, mission, and outreach, all are reminded that the church is a cornerstone of God's work in the community. Music Director

Janis Poynter

I am Janis Poynter. I have been in the music ministry for over 40 years. For the last 6 ½ years, I was the Music Director at the First Christian Church in Bargersville where I directed the choir and played the piano. I also teach piano lessons to 15 students in my home. I am also currently the Accompanist at Franklin Community High School. ​ My past Music Ministries are: First Christian Church in Bargersville (Music Director & Pianist), New Beginnings Community Church in Waverly (Pianist), West Newton UMC (Music Director & Pianist), Christian Chapel Church (Pianist & Singer for Praise Band). I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University. I attended Franklin College where I was the accompanist for all the choirs. I am also a past member of Matinee Musicale of Franklin. I am a member of the “Gathering” from Franklin College. ​ My favorite music is Southern Gospel. My favorite team is IU men’s basketball! I have two daughters and 3 grandchildren.

Custodian

Clarence Long

Clarence has been a member of Smith Valley UMC since the late 70's and has been the custodian, taking very good care of the church, since 1994. In his free time, he is an avid golfer. Clarence and his wife, Mary, have 7 children altogether. Before working at the church, he taught for 35 years at IPS. Most of his time was spent teaching 7-8 grade, but before retiring, taught younger kids and truly enjoyed all ages.
